As you already know, there has been a growing concern about the risks associated with buying Chinese cell phones. From national security concerns to intellectual property theft, consumers are looking for alternatives.

Are there any Cell Phones Not Made In China?
There are some brands that manufacture their cell phones outside of China. For instance, Purism Librem 5 is a cell phone made in the USA, with most of the parts sourced from the United States of America. On Purism’s official website, they have a chart indicating the origin of various parts used in their American-Made mobile phone.
While some companies, like Motorola, had previously manufactured phones in Texas, United States, they have since moved their production facilities overseas. Motorola’s former manufacturing facility was in Fort Worth, Texas.
The primary reason for the lack of American-made smartphones is the high cost of labor in the United States compared to other countries, particularly in Asia. In addition, the US lacks the supply chain infrastructure that has been built up in China over several decades. As a result, it is simply not feasible for most companies to manufacture smartphones in the US and remain competitive in terms of price and quality.
Now you might be thinking – What about Apple and Google pixel range?
Sure, both Apple and Google are American companies with their main headquarters in the US but most of their smartphones are not made in America but are only designed and engineered in the USA. These companies have manufacturing facilities around the world and most of them are in Asia.
Why Most Smartphones Are Made in China?
The overwhelming majority of smartphones sold worldwide are manufactured in China. Below are the reasons for it –
1. China has a large and highly skilled workforce, and labor costs are relatively low compared to other countries. This makes it an attractive location for manufacturers looking to keep production costs low.
2. The Chinese government offers generous tax incentives to foreign companies that set up manufacturing operations within the country. This has led to the establishment of numerous industrial parks and special economic zones that are dedicated to the production of electronics and other goods.
3. China has a well-developed and efficient supply chain infrastructure that enables the rapid and cost-effective production of components and the assembly of finished products. Furthermore, many of the components needed to manufacture cell phones are made in China, making it easier to assemble them in the exact location.
4. China has become a global hub for electronics manufacturing, with a vast network of suppliers, manufacturers, and logistics companies all clustered together in the same region. These include Samsung (South Korea), Asus (Taiwan), Nokia (Finland), BlackBerry (Canada), Google and Apple (USA) (although some parts may be sourced from China). It’s worth noting that while these brands are not made in China, some of their components may still be sourced from China.

Samsung has manufacturing facilities located in various countries, including South Korea, Vietnam, India, and Brazil. Samsung’s largest cell phone manufacturing facility is located in Vietnam, where the company produces a significant number of its cell phones.
Apple – United States
Apple is a technology giant that is known for producing high-end electronics, including cell phones, computers, tablets, and more. Founded in 1976 by Steve Jobs, Steve Wozniak, and Ronald Wayne, in the USA. Apple has grown into a global brand with a reputation for innovative design and superior quality.
Apple is a global company with manufacturing facilities located all over the world. The majority of Apple’s products are assembled in China.
Sony – Japan
Sony was founded in 1946 by Masaru Ibuka and Akio Morita in Tokyo, Japan. Originally, the company was named Tokyo Telecommunications Engineering Corp. The company’s name was changed to Sony Corporation in 1958, and the following year, it launched its first consumer product, a transistor radio.
Sony’s smartphones are designed in Japan and most of them are also made in Japan but some are manufactured in a number of locations around the world.
Asus – Taiwan
Asus is a Taiwanese multinational computer hardware and electronics company founded in 1989. It has become a household name in the technology industry for its cutting-edge products and innovative designs.
The company’s headquarters are located in Taipei, Taiwan, where it has several manufacturing facilities.
Asus also released the ROG Phone series, which is aimed at gamers. The ROG Phone series features high-performance processors, advanced cooling systems, and optimized software for gaming. The latest model in the ROG Phone series is the ROG Phone 5, which has received positive reviews for its performance and design.
Nokia – Finland

As far as European brands go, Nokia is the last major player.

The company has had a long and illustrious history in the world of mobile phones, starting with the launch of its first smartphone in 2002.
